The Garden

Bağbadem, as its name indicated it in turkish, is the home of lots of almond trees (bağdem) and vines (bağ). It is like this since we moved here. The almonds, fresh in april, mature until september and are eaten all along this period. Most of our vineyard is made of traditional varieties of the island, Çavuş, Kuntra (Karasakız), and Karalahna, recorded as local varietied by the Slow Food organization, and we added other varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on the last 10 years. Because of this diversity, vintage last for a long period. In our vineyard, Çavuş is collected in august to enlight our tables, the other varieties are harvested in the first week of september to be used for vineager and grape products. During this period you can join and help the vintage teams but if it looks romantic at first sight, this work is hard and tiring... If most will abandon after the first few hours, working in the vineyard is still rewarding.

Beside almond trees and vines; we remind you that our garden covers 3.5 acres; our garden includes berry trees, figs, nectarin, apple trees etc... and a large yard. Here we grow the vegetables that cover our need in summer and winter. Of course tomatoes, peppers and cuncumbers that we grow there find their place on our breakfast table. We give attention not to use chemical treatment or fertilizers in our garden and use water rationally.

Our garden, beside taste pleasure, covers also sight pleasure. Pines, cypresses, all types of flowers and lavander... To take advantage of it, you may choose to chill on one of the wooden platforms. Lay on the pillows and have a sunbed while reading a book. For the children, a wooden tree house, a sand pool, swings and the most important: a hotel owner who loves children. The garden is so large that their shoutings will not disturb you; when their energy lowers, they can come and play Monopoli, Uno and other games.

And before forgetting... our garden also includes a coop. Chickens, turkeys, quails and their wonderful cubs in spring. We also host two swallows that meet each year in may in the nest they built right over our door...
